Le Touquet Youth Council visit - July 8-10th
As I mentioned to Andy during his visit, we are planning a trip to Witney with our Youth Council in July. We are coming by coach so have our own transport but we need your help to organise and make the most of our trip to Witney.
We are in contact with Windmill Farm (Adventure +) in Clanfield for accomodation for the young people and some members of staff but they do not have any availability in their 'hotel' accomodation for the Mayor, accompanying councillors and coach driver. Would anyone have any ideas for accomodation ? We are looking for affordable rooms with en-suite facilities. We could stay in Witney or in a village near to Clanfield. We are not looking for anything luxurious and with just a year before elections it is important that we are not extravagant.
Following is a rough itinerary / ideas for the trip:
- Tuesday 8th - possible visit of Cotswold villages ( depending on arrival time i.e traffic conditions!!) , settle into accomodation. Evening : meeting in Witney with the Mayor, councillors, twinning folk, your Youth Council. Perhaps the young people could make a brief presentation of any actions they have worked on or are planning ( PowerPoint?) Very brief explication to the French children about who does what at the local council... Rachel suggested that we could perhaps have a reception with nibbles. Maybe we could get some fish and chips from opposite the Corn Exchange?
- Wednesday 9th - visit to Kings School ( Hilary) or this could be the 10th in the morning before we leave. Same presentation to a class at the school and perhaps some sport together for 1/2 an hour - introduction to cricket for example?
Afternoon - Oxford. If anyone has a contact to visit one of the older colleges ( Christ Church? Worcester? New College? ) or could guide us that would be great. We are obviously aware that entrance to the colleges needs to be booked and paid for. If not, we will try and book a guided visit. This needs to be a short visit to retain the interest of our teenagers with anecdotes - Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland, celebrities rather than lots of dates!! We would finish up in the Westgate centre and grab some food there I think. - Thursday 10th - visit to Witney blanket hall with short explication, some free time in Witney perhaps or a visit of anything else you think would be of interest.
Remembrance Day Events - November 8-9th 2025
Witney Twinning Association will host representatives from the Le Touquet and Unterhaching twinning associations over the weekend that includes Remembrance Day, hosting a dinner for the membership on the Saturday evening, details for which are yet to be decided.
